We have researched and put together our best 10 list of hard plastic kiddie pool for dogs, each carefully reviewed to help along with a lot of important and helpful information, so let’s jump right into it!

How Can A Pool Help My Dog?

Well, there are various ways in which a pool can help your dog. First of all, dogs, at least the vast majority, love to swim. Of course a kiddie pool is not that deep or big, but if you have a small dog, a kiddie pool is a great way to let them have some fun. Swimming is definitely something that we love to do, so why not your dog?

A kiddie pool can also be very useful for your dog because it can help them cool down on a hot day. Dogs have fur and in the summertime that means getting really hot, something which for a dog is uncomfortable and fairly unhealthy too. Sure, you can walk to your local lake or swimming hole if there is one, but often the distance just isn’t worth it. Also, you probably don’t want to stand around all day long holding a hose in your hands.

Hosing down your dog might be a little uncomfortable for them, plus it wastes water too. A kiddie pool is a great way for your dog to stay cool no matter how hot it is outside. There is also the fact that a small dog can actually get some pretty good exercise from a kiddie pool too.

What We Think Is The Best Hard Plastic Kiddie Pool For Dogs

Note how we are talking about hard plastic kiddie pools for dogs, not inflatable ones. Soft pools are a nightmare for dogs, or realistically for your wallet. A soft inflatable pool can easily be popped by a dog’s teeth or claws, so always remember to stick to hard plastic.

Here is the option which we personally think is one of the best plastic pool options for dogs.

Important Safety Points When Putting Your Dog In A Pool

Although it is just a kiddie pool, there are some things that you are going to want to keep in mind before putting your dog in it. Keep in mind, some of these safety tips do depend on the size of your dog. For instance, you should never leave a really small dog unattended in a kiddie pool because they may get hurt or they could drown.

For this reason you should also never fill up the kiddie pool to the point where your dog constantly has to swim in order to keep its head above water. Of course this is a safety point that is directed more towards smaller dogs, as something like a German Shepard is definitely not going to have this problem in a kiddie pool. The point is that you shouldn’t leave your dog unattended in a full pool of water as they may get tired and be unable to keep themselves afloat.

Moreover, dogs are quite susceptible to heat and sunlight. After all, one of the main points of putting your dog in the kiddie pool is to cool them down. So, you don’t want to leave them out in the sun for too long, only a few minutes if the water is cold. Even better is putting the kiddie pool in a place where it is shady.

Don’t leave your dog in the sun (more on heatstroke here). Plus, the sun will heat up the water and make it all warm and uncomfortable, thus defeating the whole point of the kiddie pool. Finally, also only use normal water. Things like chlorine are not good for the fur of your dog, plus dogs aren’t the smartest creatures around and might end up lapping up some of that chlorine water.

Other Ways Of Cooling Down Your Dog

If you haven’t noticed yet, our goal here is to help you keep your dog cool and comfortable. So, besides a kiddie pool, what are some other ways of keeping your dog cool and comfy?

  • Keep their fur short. Dog fur is meant to be insulating, so having lots of it in the summer time is definitely not ideal. Bring them to the dog groomer and give them a buzz cut (if you fancy doing it yourself, we have covered clippers here). That is something they will appreciate no doubt.
  • Put some ice cubes in their water, or at least always ensure that they have plenty of cold water. Dogs need lots of water when the temperatures get warm.
  • You can always keep the air conditioning on in your home. Or, if you don’t want a huge electricity bill, you can try air conditioning one room in your home, the one where you will make a little sanctuary for your dog.
  • If your dog likes to be outside, you can build them a dog house, one that is well insulated from the heat. You should preferably put the dog house somewhere where there is generally lots of shade so it does not get heated up by the sun.

The bottom line is that a plastic kiddie pool can be a dog’s best friend, just like they are your best friend. It’s a great way to keep your dog cool, occupied, and comfortable on a hot summer day. Of course we would recommend looking at one of the above models. Just remember that dogs can be destructive, so try to get one that is as durable as can be.
